Most of my career in graphic design has been within the educational field, with a focus on emphatic design and how that pertains to an (admittedly captive) audience with a variety of needs and learning styles. My design work has been intrinsically linked to the evolution of technology and expectations of users over the years, beginning with the "we can do anything" wild west of Flash content, to mobile-and-A11Y-compliant HTML5. Designing content that teaches students, meets a plethora of state, federal and client standardsall while remaining engaginghas been a fun and inspiring challenge over the years.

Night
These Before You Read and Author Bio assets were created to draw students in and give context before reading Elie Wiesel's book, Night, about his experiences in Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps.
K-5 Content
These are just a few examples of assets generated for K12's K-5 courses, which included standard layouts and interactive components like slideshows, call outs, and drag and drop experiences.
Koofu's Quest
Born from a game I conceptualized for a mobile game workshop, this was one of but a few that were awarded funding to develop for use in K12's curriculum. An identification game, users identify answers based on a given prompt and help the character, Koofu, navigate a variety of locations. I developed the concept, character design and locations, provided animation, and led a small team (including a developer, a UX designer, and three animators) to produce the completed game.
SPELL n' STACK
A Flash-based game (created in 2010) to help young users practice their spelling, this game sees a group of partying beavers float away on balloons. Users spell word prompts correctly to stack objects on top of each other in order to reach the beavers while trying to earn power ups and high scores. Multiple levels offer more complex words and offer unique locations, including prehistoric times, under-the-sea, the city, and even Mars. Each location contains unique skins for the beavers, stackable items, and fun surprises. With the help of a developer, I designed and animated all aspects of the game.
Vocabulary Interaction
An example of an interactive component for an ELA course. Meant to be used for introduction of vocabulary, this design was created to give each word its own easily identifiable section, with a touch of color used to give some life to what would otherwise be a dull, text heavy experience.
